About

Collective Design Studio is a collaborative design practice built around curiosity, hands-on material exploration, and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship. I co-founded this project with two architects and woodworkers from Chile, coordinating the full process from concept development to exhibition at the Interior Design Show Vancouver 2025.

My Role

While contributing to the design and fabrication process, I also took on the full coordination of the project, managing timelines across the three-person team, drafting and submitting the IDS application, and organizing the installation logistics on show day. I was the primary point of contact with the Interior Design Show team throughout the process.

The Work

Model 1 is a lamp crafted from Lenga (Nothofagus pumilio), a native wood from Chilean Patagonia. Twenty-four ultra-thin translucent wood sheets, each just 0.5mm thick, are fitted into channels milled along the lateral faces of laminated wooden ribs. As light passes through the fine grain, this technique enables sub-surface scattering in each sheet, producing a warm, diffused radiance that reveals wood's unexpected translucency.

The piece is designed to be assembled and disassembled, encouraging modularity and shared authorship, embodying the studio's core values of curiosity, collaboration, and collective making.

Key Contributions

  • Coordinated a 3-person design team across material research, fabrication, and exhibition preparation, managing timelines and deliverables from concept to show day.

  • Drafted and managed the full IDS application and submission process.

  • Organized installation logistics and served as primary liaison with the Interior Design Show Vancouver team.

  • Contributed to design development and material experimentation.

Model 1 is currently on display at the Artist Studios, Alliance Française de Vancouver.
